Estate plan a must for every Kent resident

Throughout history man has asked himself "where does one go when they die?" Everybody has their own idea of what comes after death but very few can actually know when their time has come. Like most things in life, death is unexpected. Such a morose topic rarely dwells in the minds of most Kent residents, but it is something that should be addressed. While one usually does not know when they will die, they can plan for the event and make it a little easier for loved ones left behind.

By creating a basic estate plan, individuals can ensure their end-of-life wishes are met upon their death. Experts say most people should create an estate plan to assure all of their assets go where they would want them to upon their death. A common mistake made by most Americans is failing to construct an estate plan. By having a will, trust or power of attorney, one can be assured their loved ones are taken care of in the event of an untimely death.

Without a basic estate plan, assets and property will be passed down according to the laws of intestate succession, which essentially lets the government decide how the property is divided. By taking the time to construct an estate plan, beneficiaries know what they will receive in the event of a death, so there is no ambiguity on who gets what after a person's demise.

Kent residents who want to ensure their end-of-life wishes are being met may consider creating an estate plan. These are not just for the rich and can be set up and changed throughout one's life. An attorney may help any individual set up an estate plan in a timely manner.
